Happy Janmashtami to all!
Happy Janmashtami to all not only Hindus but to all!
ShriKrishna have a lot of lessons for humanity , so Happy Janmashtami to all including atheists. Atheists can see him as a great historical figure who had been a great strategist, warrior, ruler, philosopher. And theists will only change tense of that verb ' had been' to 'is'- establishing connection to present day life.
During Mahabharata war Krishna himself could participate as a warrior but he chose the role of सारथी. Saarthi is verbally charioteer , but it connotes more than just charioteer , especially persona of Shrikrishna add more flair to meaning of this word. Saarthi is your accompaniment , a friend in your journey, who steers and directs your journey. And the most important part he encourages you , but fight you must, he/she won't fight on your behalf. There he/she restricts his/her instincts and allows you to flourish.
Parents can play role of Saarthi in our lives. At a place I was searching for a new room and I noticed notice on one house that they are offering rooms on rent, so I knocked the door and a middle aged person came ageing above 50 I guess , I found that person sober without any bad habits ( how much you expect to know in five minutes :)). So I started discussion about rent and conditions , facilities assuming he is owner of the house. Then he told he need to ask his father and called him. That was surprise for me. Even in his 70s or 80s he did not passed keys of home to next generation ( that's ok if you watch NATSAMRAT!) but you don't allow your son some routine issues, transactions to handle on their own.Of course this is based on what meets the eye, we don't know and not concerned here to know other side of the story if any. I can sense out of excessive care some parents don't trust their offsprings enough, and they don't realize that it's issue of trust. After sufficient achievements in their lives they still want to participate in a war which their child should participate. Also in many reality shows parents use their children as a weapon of their own fame and prestige. It is ok if you are genuinely providing opportunity to your children , but it's not ok if you are transferring the weight of 'rat race ' of expectations and desires of your generation onto the new generation.
Let Arjuna's sharpen their weapons, minds , intelligence and hearts. Be a friend , philosopher and guide like सारथी श्रीकृष्ण!
