Across the ideological spectrum many people now praise Gandhiji.Even there is undeclared fight to decide to whom Gandhiji belongs.
So we can see left opposed Gandhiji in his lifetime. And even now there are books that attack or try character assassination of Gandhiji. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Gandhiji have differences and criticized vehemently to each other. But to imitate their heated exchanges we need to acquire at least some stature for ourselves. And interestingly such atrocity literature is spread by leftist as these books are found alongside books written by left ideologues and I haven't seen these idealogues criticize that. As they wanted to exploit caste faultlines. And many of them sympathetic to Naxalism knowingly or unknowingly pushing Dalits and Tribals towards Naxalism or Maoism. So recently you can observe while many of the Naxalites surrender , some of the educated in cities are spreading Naxalism & Maoism of whom only aim is to overthrow state.
Now when Right invokes Gandhiji , Congress which is left of the centre party mostly and leftist parties also remember him. But Gandhiji belongs to all. Why is it problematic to someone if ruling party invokes and celebrates our shared inheritance?
In his lifetime specially towards the end not just Rightist but common people were unhappy about Gandhiji's judicious nature where he ensured that sum of amount to be given to other part of divided India. At the backdrop of partition and bloodshed Gandhiji's decision- this offering of sum to other part of divided India appeared an anomaly especially to common people. And one of the person Nathuram Godse killed Gandhiji. RSS was banned but after a few years ban was lifted. Nathuram Godse did follow right wing politics. But it was not plan of RSS.
And now Left and Right criticize each other. But both were not so much liking for Gandhian ways. While left regarded him working for elite class interest and they were too dogmatic to heed doctrine of trusteeship envisaged by Gandhiji ( and radical humanism of M.N.Roy etc.). Whereas Right did not like non-violent ways ( even now ) and with little understanding that non-violent ways of Gandhiji turned freedom struggle into mass movement of common people.
Although there are many shades of grey ( not the cinema :)) - Left when it had influenced and chaired many educational institutions it shunned other viewpoint. So fallout of this is that our discourses are now like " us versus them", " either you are on this side or you are enemy ( not even opponent)" or like " yes or no question". So many shades of ideologies exist and we still classify them in Left or Right and when found unsuitable we discredit them .This practice is not leading anywhere. Left, Right, Centre etc. we can learn from everybody.
And Gandhiji belongs to Nation, not any party , especially when it is Congress ( I) .And that party is so focussed on dynasty , so why shout if other party celebrate Gandhiji, is there any patent?
