Happiness

19th July 2011 UN General assembly passed historic resolution, Happiness: Towards a Holistic Approach to Development.
GNH i.e. Gross National Happiness , the idea is put forth by a small neighbour of India , Bhutan. The takeaway from this, irrespective of world's analysis or judgement that such a small Nation may be regarded as Non-player in world affairs , this has not stopped Bhutan from contributing heavily to the World. I used here,  word 'heavily 'very consciously, think of 1971 , Bhutan is known as on of the poor country and still giving a new shift to entire discourse of Development is very Great contribution. Especially when whole discourse or consider about 'humanities' they are still dominated by Western scholars . And Bhutan leads by example that economic condition is one of the factor and not the prime factor ( emotional and behavoural aspects are equally important)and it does not stop one in generation of new ideas, new solutions. And in this light one pertinent question what stopped India from promoting Yoga all these years? With all it's contribution Indian National Congress(I) and it's predecessor were heavily influenced by colonial interpretations ( and it includes communists as well as they were colonized psychologically by USSR can also be called colonizer in a way). The current ruling party BJP is rooted in Indian ethos and provides new narrative in commensurate with Indian ethos that is where it leads even posing formidable challenge to regional parties , even when you may not agree with them on some or all points, and you always have your own opinions. But be careful are they your 'own' opinions?

So it's no brainer that Yoga helps multiply happiness. Opposition to it from within  India is biased. Some people think it is a Brahminical practice and oppose . As if only Brahmins practiced it all these ages? And whoever develops it, if it is helpful why not embrace it? And some people oppose  it due to religion. It is definitely Hindu contribution to world but to credit anything positive to Hinduism doesn't fit in the narrative of left leaning maoist symapathiser and apologists of Human rights of criminals. It is curious case villages known for traditional practices know less about Yoga than city people nowadays. Villagers are forgetting their heritage and in imitation or competition falls behind city people with whatever cliched notions of modernity in their minds ( na ghar ka na ghat ka !)

Also in multiple ways we are in pursuit of  numbers and not of happiness ( Money, Marks in the exam .....to GDP growth rate .. etc.) .Numbers will then make you happy that's popular conception. But why waste time in waiting?  Be happy now and be positive now , numbers will follow, that's a little shift , experts can call it ' paradigm shift'. And all our Saints of Bhakti tradition of every religion have the same message ,  if you are not following them there are serious weaknesses in your Bhakti , get it right first and then dream of being ' VishwaGuru' oh my Bharat i.e. India

P.S. Have some spare time so written something.Happy journey! Travelling is mesmerizing phenomena since eternity , will talk at length about it after returning to normal routine ( in our case their is  no routine though, let's call it framework :) )
