Division of labour is termed as basis for chaturvarna which is at the base of current caste system present in INDIA. Brahmins were Knowledge workers, Kshatriya were given duty of SECURITY. Vaishyas took care of trade & finance.And Shudras took care of essentials of daily lives. It's ok. But problem begins when one attaches higher value to one work and lesser value to other. Apparently even any layman can think that gaining knowledge is supreme task,but please hold on one cannot live without basic sense of security,enough resources and everyday essentials.SO hierarchy is not necessary,or if necessary- should not be given importance out of proportion.
ANOTHER THING CREPT IN WITH PASSAGE OF TIME- This Division of Labour had given in to Inheritance. Supporters of caste system took help of genetics to support their theories,forgetting importance of epigenetics. So nature and nurture both impact any species livelihood including we- human beings.
With 21st century and modernity and post - modernity( What is that? enlighten me..plz) this division of labour is irrelevant. Why? Because each of modern individual needs each aspect used earlier for hierarchy ,be it Knowledge,Self- Defence,basics of finances & day to day essential works. European,Americans have no caste system so they didn't have any hiccups or prestige issue while cleaning their own apartment, toilets etc. We ,here begin with prestige issues for simple tasks such as cleaning,how to achieve other tasks with collective efforts. I am not here to give you " Gyan" (;-)) . JUST LET's INTROSPECT.
Gurucharan Das ji in his book India Unbounded referred that we don't have enough tinkerers.Reasons are rooted in our social institutions.We can change all this. I am not Kshatriya,Shudra, Brahmin or Vaishya, I am all of them.
For now, reservation is always a hot topic. We all may have extreme opinions,but they are just opinions,nothing more, nothing less. Don't have grudges, don't be enemy of each -other if we have different opinions, however sharp and pointed they may be.
