Farmer
This should be done.That should be done.what should be done? Nothing.Farmers are suiciding.What is remedy. Each village have GramPanchayat or some villages sharing Grampanchayat in between them.More than state government or Union Government,GramPanchayat can address this issue effectively.Reasons are obvious and simple,in villages everyone knows each other quite well unlike cities,so whose condition is dire,who is needy is known.Then there is question of insufficient funds;some truth in it,but it's half truth.If careful study is done,many GramPanchayats fail to spend allotted amounts in various schemes.And 14th Finance commission and some of the state governments now emphasizing to give more funds and financial powers to GramPanchayats. So farmer's suicides can be minimized if GramPanchayat becomes more proactive for this question. Those of us living in villages should introspect and examine what our GramPanchayat have done from the allotted 29 subjects under 73 rd amendment of constitution.
Farmer's condition can be improved in other many ways that are discussed widely in public. Just villages' bonhomie,it's caste structure,communication between farmers is not given sufficient attention. Also some traditions, and some normalized customs in due course of time(e.g. Dowry) are also disturbing rural socio-economy.Dowry has been given prestige even by well educated Middle class living in cities. While there is not violence in each case,so it is somehow compromised by families engaged in contract they call "Sanskara"...HYPOCRITES!! So poor people often follow Middle class. And Middle class laments others for engaging in practice of Dowry,but they themselves practice it.........widely criticism depends on........if you are receiving party ........or next party is.
Also this one is neglected aspect. More attention is given to you & your family after you die.......so this is also case in some cases.....also farmer dies and then it's declared... a suicide..This issue is sensitive and never addressed in public domain.....even at times to avoid 'bashing' one would receive in social media where every other person thinks he/she is the expert.
One farmer nearby our village said that he is happy that government is actively building Roads and Infrastructure,which will help in long term.BUT he warned that he would think before voting ...if Government address Farmer's issue of Market Pricing of crops effectively in years to come.
So government should do because it can,but what we are doing?For the time being at least go through 29 subjects GramPanchayat can handle and how your GramPanchayat fares,cares of our Farmers
